BALLETThe ballet program at Ballet Hispanico is uniquely designed to serve as the foundation and basis of all the dance techniques. Students develop self-confidence and a strong understanding and mastery of technical skill in a disciplined yet nurturing environment. The program emphasizes attention to detail, dynamic movement, musicality, and expressiveness through dance quality.
SPANISH DANCEBallet Hispanico’s unique Spanish Dance curriculum incorporates varied regional dance styles from Spain including flamenco and Escuela Clásica. This dramatic technique engages the entire body through the hand, arm, and footwork exercises. Classes feature complex rhythm exercises, full-length choreography, and brief descriptions of the history of the art form and its expressive content.
HIP-HOPExplore the distinctive history and culture of hip-hop! Students focus on five styles: locking, popping, house, breaking, and freestyle. The class emphasizes proper hip-hop technique and the ability to retain movement patterns in a choreographed work.
JAZZ Jazz targets the fundamentals of strong body alignment and emphasizes muscle awareness through form, shape, style and flexibility. The three levels focus on different rhythms and timing to enhance students’ awareness of technique and musical expression. Each level increases in complexity and culminates in a theatrical or contemporary combination that develops students’ learning and retention skills.
SALSA and BALLROOM Designed to teach students the history and social etiquette of the Ballroom and Latin dances, these classes sharpen skills in dance position, frame, footwork, body actions, arm styling, floor craft, and partnering. Students can work toward competitions and performances.
BOYS WORKSHOP(Ages 6-11)Click here to discover the fun energy of dance in this class! In Level 1, students engage in dance activities that develop coordination, control, and creativity by exploring elements such as levels in space, directions, movement dynamics, and focus. In Level 2, students are introduced to the Limón technique that strengthens and expands the concepts learned in Level 1 at the same time preparing them for the higher levels in the School program. Tuition for the Boys Workshop is 100% subsidized. Special thanks to the Ted Snowdon Foundation for their generous support of this program. A $30 Registration Fee will be assessed. A limited number of spaces are available for these classes.
MODERN Modern class encourages students to find their own movement and personal uniqueness. Filled with emotion and passion, Modern technique focuses primarily on fall and rebound, suspense and succession. Drawing primarily from the Limón technique, this modern class builds strength while creating a sense of freedom and exploration of movement in its most natural state.
CULTURAL LATIN DANCE(Ages 6-7)Cultural Latin Dance helps children to develop their social skills and make friends in a fun and encouraging learning environment. Students will learn basic partnering skills, tap into their creative imagination and acquire rhythmic awareness as they salsa, merengue and cha cha cha their way through these musical genres’ most popular songs.
