Technical Specifications

Stage

The stage should be a minimum of 40' wide at the proscenium, and 30' deep from the curtain line to the cyclorama. Floor must be wood, smooth and level. The floor should be resilient, laid over wood sleepers. Floor cannot rest directly on concrete. Ballet Hispanico reserves the right to cancel any performance scheduled where the stage is concrete.

Stage, wing area and crossover should be free of all equipment and scenery, and cleaned of all dirt and debris. A freestanding ladder must be provided on stage not less than 25' high. Stage must be properly heated to 70° - 75° Fahrenheit.

A black marley-type dance floor must be provided. If this is not house equipment, ample time must be allowed prior to load-in to lay a rented floor, provided by the presenter. The dance floor should be thoroughly mopped with ammonia and water (no soap) prior to the company's arrival. Dancers must be allowed to wear character shoes and to use rosin on the dance floor.

Curtains and Masking

Five sets of legs and borders should be hung evenly spaced, dividing the stage into four wings. Legs and borders should be black. Company requires a full stage black scrim, a white bounce drop, and a full stage black traveler or drop. An act curtain must be provided.

Lighting

It is the responsibility of the presenter to provide all lighting equipment. For its basic repertory, Ballet Hispanico requires approximately 32 Par-64 WFL (or 32 1kw Fresnels), 60 6x9 Lekos, 45 6x12 Lekos and 20 6x16 Lekos to hang on four pipes and eight offstage booms (one in each wing on each side); approximately 15 Lekos for front of house positions; worklights for general illumination; running lights in the crossover; and 3 color ground row striplights for cyclorama lighting. Given specific programming, more lights of various types will be needed. Company requires a minimum of 100 2.4kw dimmers and a computer lighting board with memory capability of 180 cues.

Company's light plot must be hung, circuited and tested in advance of the stage manager's and lighting director's arrival. When possible, the company asks that color (provided by the presenter) be put into the instruments during the hang.

Presenter should provide company with ground plan and section to scale, rigging plot and a complete lighting equipment inventory. The Company will provide a light plot with accompanying information.

Sound

It is the responsibility of the presenter to provide all sound equipment. Ballet Hispanico requires a sound system to reproduce compact disks for primary playback and amplifiers and speakers geared to the size of the house. There must be at least two backstage monitor speakers, with volume controls separate from the front of house speakers. An announcer's microphone may be needed backstage for use by the stage manager.

A closed-circuit intercom system is required with stations for all operators. An extension for the center of the house is required for setting cues. If the intercom system is not house equipment, it must be rented and installed prior to load-in.

Dressing Rooms

Ballet Hispanico requires four dressing rooms: one for men (7), one for women (6), and two star rooms, all with restroom facilities (hot and cold running water). These facilities must be separate and apart from public view. Each dressing room must be clean with sufficient lighting for make-up, mirrors, tables, chairs, wash basins, clothes rack and electrical outlets. Rooms must be properly heated to 70°-75° Fahrenheit. Sufficient area offstage will be needed for quick changes.

Wardrobe

The wardrobe room may be either an additional unoccupied dressing room or a separate workroom. The wardrobe room should be equipped with clothes racks, hangers, AC outlets, an ironing board, iron, sewing machine, sink for hand washing, washer, drier and industrial steamer.

Technical Schedule and Stagehands

Set-up: Load-in will start the day before the first performance with a minimum 8 hour call, for a minimum work crew of eight experienced stagehands.

On the day of performance, a cueing session will be scheduled in the morning and a technical rehearsal will be scheduled in the afternoon. Load-out will commence immediately following the final performance of the engagement.

All stage personnel scheduled to work the performance must also work the technical rehearsal. The following minimum running crew is required: one light board operator, one sound operator, and five people who can work as electricians, carpenters/flymen, prop persons, and follow spot operator. One wardrobe assistant will be needed for a five-hour work call prior to the performance and for the load out. Depending on the repertory performed, two wardrobe assistants may be needed for each performance call to work as dressers.

Ballet Hispanico is not a yellow-card attraction.

Local Transportation

Presenter is responsible for providing all local transportation of company personnel and equipment from arrival to departure. The company travels locally by coach bus (with locking storage bins for cargo) or by two passenger vans and one cargo van or truck. Presenter must provide drivers for all vehicles.

Hospitality

At all work calls, coffee, water and hot tea should be provided. In addition, on performance days and lecture/demonstration performance days when the Company is working in the theater, Presenter shall provide Company with access to bottled water, a large pot of coffee, milk, sugar, tea bags, hot water, fresh fruit, yogurt, bagels and butter in an easily accessible area backstage close to the dressing rooms, to be available beginning with the earliest arrival of Company personnel. On regular performance days a hot meal and beverage service must be provided backstage for the Company. Presenter and the Company will agree on the menu and time of meal service two (2) weeks before the Company's arrival.

Company

Ballet Hispanico's 19-21 member touring company consists of 13-14 dancers, Artistic Director, Rehearsal Director, Company Manager, Stage Manager, Lighting Director and Wardrobe Director.
