Ballet Hispanico of New York, an AGMA company under the new artistic direction of Eduardo Vilaro, will hold open auditions for experienced male dancers. Must have 3-5 years professional dance experience with strong ballet technique and modern dance training. Repertory includes works by Andrea Miller, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Maray Gutierrez, Talley Beatty and Vicente Nebrada.

Audition will consist of barre work followed by choreography from Company repertory.

Development Officer for Individual Giving

Position Description

The Development Officer for Individual Giving is a full-time employee of Ballet Hispanico reporting to the Director of External Affairs. The position supports all activities related to individual donors, primarily mail campaigns, but also cultivation and fund raising events, and major gift solicitation meetings. The Amigos program recognizes donors up to $2,499, and the major gift program, the Circulo de Honor, offers donors of $2,500 or more special insider events and “meet the artists” opportunities. Gifts from individuals account for approximately 10 percent of all contributed income (20 percent with Board gifts included). The goal for the upcoming fiscal year is to broaden the base of Amigos and to strengthen the major gifts program. Working closely with the Director of External Affairs, the position will develop and implement strategies for renewing and increasing gifts from individuals, expand the roster of new donors, and support the stewardship of current donors, including the Board of Directors. The position has primary responsibility for managing and maintaining the donor database – Raisers’ Edge.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Director of Development, manage both levels of the individual giving program: the Amigos (donors up to $2,499) and the Circulo de Honor (council of $2,500+ donors).
  • o Written requests to current and past donors, ticket buyers, and other prospects (approximately 6 mail appeals annually);
  • o Process and acknowledge gifts;
  • o Ensure benefits fulfillment and proper donor stewardship;
  • o Support two to three Circulo cultivation events annually.

  • Manage the spring Parents Fund Drive mailing to School of Dance families and serve as point person for the Parents’ Committee.

  • Work with Marketing Manager to design and implement e-appeals.

  • Measure and analyze returns on appeals with an eye toward maximizing results of future mailings and e-appeals.

  • Identify and research major giving prospects, and prepare biographical profiles for solicitation meetings.

  • Support Director of External Affairs in reviewing donor lists, assigning Board members to solicit select prospects, managing their interaction, setting meetings as necessary, and following up.

  • Track outstanding capital campaign pledges, send payment reminders, process and acknowledge gifts.

  • Working with Development Associate for Events and development team, staff all Ballet Hispanico special events, especially events for the Circulo de Honor.

  • Manage Ballet Hispanico travel program (currently in planning stage).

  • Update and enhance donor solicitation materials.

  • Maintain fund raising database (Raisers’ Edge) and pull all mailing lists for development and marketing projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Skills

  • Three to five years development experience, primarily in the area of individual giving.

  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Effective writing skills and close attention to detail.

  • Strong computer and word processing ability.

  • Strong mastery of Raisers’ Edge database. 

  •  Bachelor’s or advance degree preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.

  • Knowledge of Spanish helpful.

Receptionist

Position Description

The Receptionist is a full-time employee of Ballet Hispanico serving the whole institution and reporting to the School Director and School Administrator. The position provides the first line of customer service to the organization’s various constituencies, including students, parents, public school administrators, Company dancers, and donors. Ballet Hispanico’s headquarters house the School of Dance, the Company’s rehearsal studio, and the administrative offices of the organization. Stationed in the bustling front office, the Receptionist interacts with all staff, teachers, and artists employed by the organization, as well as their guests. This is a vitally important position for the institution as Ballet Hispanico strives to serve a highly diverse community with grace, efficiency, energy, and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone for all BH staff, announce calls, take accurate messages

  • Answer front door, announce visitors, monitor all guests, parents and students

  • Answer general questions involving the school, registration, company

  • Open and close the building as needed (Saturdays included)

  • Update and process School Registrations using Jackrabbit Dance

  • Give basic office support: Filing, Typing, Faxing, Xeroxing, etc.


Qualifications/Skills

  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Two to three years professional work experience, preferably in a comparable role

  • Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills and pleasant demeanor

  • Excellent sense of humor and calm under pressure
 
  • Good computer and word processing ability (Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of Jackrabbit (school database) a strong plus

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others

Education Internship at Ballet Hispanico
Position begins Fall 2010

We are committed to supporting and encouraging the next generation of dance educators.
If you are interested in Dance Education, internships are available for you.

We offer a series of dance education activities designed to serve students, educators, dance audiences, and the general public. Ballet Hispanico shares its unique blend of dance and learning about the Hispanic and Latino Diaspora with an average of 20,000 participants annually. The activities evoke a deeper awareness, appreciation, and understanding of culture, and draw from a diversity of dance forms including: Classical Spanish, Modern, Afro-Caribbean, Folkloric, Latin Social Dance, Jazz, Hip Hop, Creative Movement, and Latin Jazz. Ballet Hispanico Archival Intern
Position begins September 7th, 2010

Ballet Hispanico seeks a part-time intern to work on an extensive archival project to catalogue the 40-year history of Ballet Hispanico and Founder Tina Ramirez. Ballet Hispanico is partnering with Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños at Hunter College ("Centro") which will become the repository for these effects in the future. The intern will work closely with Coco Pelaez, original Ballet Hispanico Company member and niece of Tina Ramirez. Duties include, but not limited to, sorting and labeling collateral materials and photography, data entry, and cataloguing effects compliant with the requirements of Centro. An ideal candidate will be a college or graduate level student seeking a degree in the arts, however, consideration will be given to those with an interest in dance and the history of Ballet Hispanico. Position requires a positive demeanor, meticulous attention to detail, and basic database and data entry skills. The individual must be available for this project 1-2 days a week.
