General Information

Performance is an important component of training at the Ballet Hispanico School. Students at the Intensive and Professional levels may be invited to perform with the Ballet Hispanico School Ensemble. A variety of opportunities are provided during the year to showcase all students' development and strengthen their stage skills, including the year-end Student Performances.

School Ensemble

School Ensemble Director, Nancy Ticotin

Advanced students are selected for the Ballet Hispanico School Ensemble, which offers over 20 performances per year in venues as varied as New York City Hall, neighborhood centers and other cultural institutions. The group has appeared on the nationally-televised Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC, for "First Night" New Year's Eve celebrations at Grand Central Station, at the Children's Museum of Manhattan, at Shea Stadium, the Puerto Rican Day Parade, and for other events in the New York City area.

Repertory is created especially for the School Ensemble by professional choreographers or selected from works originally performed by the professional company. These works draw on the students' abilities in a variety of techniques and give them the experience of working directly with performing professionals.

Student Performances

Adventures students give a final classroom presentation for parents and guests on the last day of their class. These presentations are held in the studio during the regularly scheduled class times.

Beginners and Boys Workshop students perform in the Junior Recital, usually held on the second Saturday in June. Please see the Calendar for the current year's performance date.

The Open Teen, Intensive and Professional Programs perform in the Student Performance, usually held on the second Saturday in June. Please see the Calendar for the current year's performance date.

The Junior Recital and Student Performance are conducted in a manner similar to a professional company performance. The choreographed presentations are held in a nearby theater, with the support of professional production staff. Costumes, which are the financial responsibility of each student, are specified for each class piece. Attendance is required at all rehearsals in the studio and on stage. Additional information is distributed during the school year. The performances are videotaped for Ballet Hispanico's archives and are available for sale to parents and students in the school.

All students enrolled in the Intensive Division of the Summer Program participate in a closing, staged presentation, which is usually held on the last day of the summer program.
