Who were your biggest supporters?

Definitely my family; they always believed I could do anything I wanted to! I remember my grandma watching out for my diet and my mom's performance critiques. My friends were also always very generous in helping me with expenses my family couldn't always take care of from school tuitions, to bus tickets and ballet shoes.

When did you know you wanted to pursue dance?

I honestly don't know when the moment was; I was just going with the flow! I was artistic from a very young age. Dance was something that I liked doing, and as things began happening, I became more and more dedicated to it. Dance was showing me things I hadn't seen before, and I loved it!

What's your most memorable performance?

My first performance in my hometown, Saquarema. I was 14 years old with only a month or two of classes. We performed outdoors and I remember the sun setting while I was doing a soldier's solo. I still have the costume somewhere in my house!

Why did you choose to come to Ballet Hispánico?

I was always very moved by BH performances. My best friend, Dandara, had been in the Company and I always showed up to watch her perform. I would leave the theater with this feeling of, "Wow this is what/how I want to dance!" BH is an incredible platform that stands for my people! Who wouldn't want to be a part of it?

How do you see the dance field progressing during this current time?

With the pandemic happening, the whole dance community is exploring being online to do performances, classes, talks, intensives and more virtually. We are still figuring things out, but I believe that in the very near furture, we will know how to best use the internet in our favor that will be almost as effective as the face-to-face methods we are used to.
