Alexa Boyles

ChoreoLaB Student

Alexa Boyles (she/they) is a native Virginian dance artist. She attended Valley Dance Theatre from 2004-2019 where she trained in various styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and acrobatics. Throughout middle and high school she traveled to various national dance conventions with the Valley Dance Theatre Performance Company. In June of 2019, Alexa was invited to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts Contemporary Intensive, where she trained under artists such as Brenda Daniels, Ashley Lindsey, Gregory Dolbashian, Dante Puleio, and many more. In addition, she worked extensively with choreographer Andrew Harper, and performed in his repertory work Model Number. In August of 2019, Alexa began her BFA in Dance & Choreography at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). While at VCU she trained under professors Scott Putman, Eric Rivera, Autumn Proctor-Waddell, MK Abadoo, and many more. In addition, Alexa had the opportunity to work closely with members of the dance company Urban Bush Women as they restaged their work Artist Journal. Alexa has continued her training by attending various intensives, including the American Dance Festival Winter Intensive and the UNCSA Professional Studies Intensive. In August of 2021, Alexa transferred to Shenandoah University’s Dance Conservatory (SU) to continue her BFA Dance & Choreography degree. Thus far at SU, Alexa has trained under and performed in pieces by Erica Helm, Tiffanie Carson, Maurice Fraga, Shylo Martinez, Daniel Padierna, Ting-Yu Chen, Mary Robare, and many more. At SU, Alexa has also had the opportunity to work in residency with guest artists Natasha Davis and Ballet Hispanico with their restaging of Batucada Fantastica. She is also fascinated by exploring her choreographic voice, and recently her choreography was selected to be shown at the ACDA Mid-Atlantic North Conference this past March. Alexa is excited to pursue all avenues of her dance career by exploring her performance capabilities and challenging her artistic voice!
