Nicole Corea
Choreographer
Nicole Corea is originally from Palmyra, New York. Following her early training with Sandy Stramonine and Lynne Kareken, she attended the Juilliard School, graduating with a BFA in 2000.
In the last 20 years of her professional career, she has performed on some of the world's most renowned stages including the Metropolitan Opera House and Joyce Theater in New York City, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Teatro Romano in Spoleto, Italy and the Stanislavsky Theater in Moscow. She has been a company member of many reputable dance companies as a soloist and principal dancer including Ballet Hispanico of NY, Elisa Monte Dance, Ballet Memphis, The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet.
Film and television highlights include numberous live worldwide HD screenings of performances at the Metropolitan Opera, and video and television appearances with artists such as Beyonce and Taylor Danye. Most recently, she has choreogrphed a TVC commercial in Australia for the national vitamin brand, Bioglan, starring actress Nat Bassingthwaighte.
In 2015, Nicole was sponsored by the U.S. Embassy to represent the United States by performing at the first annual Ubumuntu Arts Festival in Kigali, Rwanda. In 2018, Nicole was chosen for the original cast of "Isadora" led by choreographer Vladimir Varnava and performing alongside the world famous ballerina, Natalie Osipova.
Nicole is also an accomplished independent choreographer and has led four original works commissioned by the first company of Ballet Memphis as well as by the Ballet Memphis junior company. Her work has also been presented in theaters across New York City as part of the Thang Dao Contemporary Dance Festival, the Latin Choreographers Festival and at Greenspace Brooklyn. Most recently, she collaborated with the non-profit organization MindLeaps to create a work for the annual Ubumuntu Arts Festival at the Genocide Memorial Museum in Kigali, Rwanda.
As a teaching artist, Nicole has taught master classes for all affiliated companies and has traveled the U.S. and abroad as a guest teacher for master classes, workshops, conventions, and lectures. Since 2014, she has been a teaching ambassador and contemporary curriculum creator for the MindLeaps program in Rwanda as well an annual teaching artist for the Jikei Group of Colleges in Japan. Her guest teaching in the New York City has included many reputable institutions such as Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance, Frank Sinatra and Talent Unlimited High School. Other programs and organizations in the USA include Dance Masters of America, Peoria Ballet, Bounce Competition, Key West Modern Dance and the Destro Experience. In Austrailia, she has been invited as a guest teacher for the Australasian Dance Collective, Brisbane's leading contemporary dance company, led by Amy Hollingsworth as well as the Queensland College of Dance, MDH Brisbane, the Queensland Ballet, Ballet Workshops Australia and the Austrailian Dancers Project. Nicole is also a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher and has created specialized classes in body conditioning, stretch and strengthening for dancers to many of these institutions. Public speaking highlights include a presentation about living a cretaive life at TedX Rochester in 2012, entitled "Life as Improvisation."
Nicole has acted as repetiteur and assistant choreographer for dance companies, independent choreographers, films, musicals and music videos. She has staged the work of Elisa Monte and Lar Lubovitch coaching and teaching the dancers of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, The Juilliard School, the Ailey/Fordham BFA Program, Marymount Manhattan College, UC Irvine and the Booker T. Washington High School. Her passion for coaching led her to the position of rehearsal director for the New York City based Damagedance and for the resident company at Steps on Broadway, the Steps Repertory Ensemble, under the direction of Bradley Shelver. She has worked as an assistant to Motown choreographer, Warren Adams on his productions for the Ballet Met Company. "The Lion King 20th Anniversary" in Orlando, Florida, an original children's musical "EnviroKids" and Chameleon's original music video entitled "Stay Wait" starring principal dancers of the New York City Ballet.
Nicole has resided in Australia for the past two years, where she has taught, coached, and performed in both Brisbane and Sydney. She was most recently involved in a creative residency at the Sydney Opera House with choreographer Xanthe Geeves, creating an original work to be performed by the Australian Ballet.
