Ballet Hispanico, the nation’s premier Latino dance company, makes its eagerly-awaited return to the Apollo stage and celebrates thirty years of delighting students with a guided journey through Latin American dance forms and music. Highlights of this year’s program include Club Havana, an exhilarating mix of the conga, rumba, mambo, and cha-cha; Asuka, a special piece celebrating the music of “Queen of Salsa” Celia Cruz choreographed by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro; and CARMEN.maquia, which reinvents the classic tale of a fiery gypsy through modern dance tinged with the Spanish paso doble and flamenco. The performance will feature the participation of BHdos, Ballet Hispanico’s second company for young pre-professional dancers.
